Alyssa Spencer is an illustrator and maker of small things. She grew up tumbling down grassy hillsides, filling her pockets with acorns, reading piles and piles of books, and making lots of little things in the wild suburbs of Virginia. Her work focuses on nature, folklore, and plants from a bug's point of view. She works in a variety of media from gouache to fabric to paper using a menagerie of techniques and self taught skills. When she's not making things she's spending time with her family. They take lots of walks, she picks dirty things up off the ground, and her husband tries to convince her not to bring them in the house.

My focus is to create a brand of heirloom toys, surface designs, DIY kits and patterns, and illustrated stories to bring the magic and whimsy of nature and little worlds into our homes every day. I find such immense joy in creating things that spark imagination and I want to share that feeling with everyone.

Favorite illustrators, creators, and artists: Jim Henson, Richard Scarry, Mary Blair, Arthur Rackham, Ezra Jack Keats, Christian Robinson, Henri Matisse, Alice & Martin Provensen, Leo Lionni, Brian Froud.
Current favorite media: Ink wash, cotton glitter yarn, and wool felt.
