Inspiration: Richard Scarry

One of the best things about having a kid is you can totally use them as an excuse to purchase and hoard all of your favorite childhood things under the pretext of it being for them. Recently I went wild buying up all the Richard Scarry books I could find. You know, for my son...

The Little Golden Books (obviously not all attributed to Scarry) was my first exposure to animals doing human things and this anthropomorphic concept stuck so deeply that it still echoes in my work today. I adore his use of color and texture and his character design. Such perfect little outfits... Here's a few of my favorite Scarry illustrations.
